We Serve God by Serving our Communities: Following Jesus's call, founder of the early Methodist movement John Wesley taught us to grow in our faith by “doing all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can” (General Rules).
Faith Community is active in our local and global communities. We are devoted to being part of the fabric of the lives, families, youth and seniors in our communities. We are committed to helping the least, the lost and the left out, including those with hurts, hang up and habits.
Our doors and our hearts are open. You are invited to join us!
Food Pantry: The FCUMC Food Pantry is open for our neighbors Saturday’s 10am - 12noon.
VOLUNTEERS ARE WELCOMED!
- Food Pantry Facts
- In 2024 our Food Pantry distributed over 28,000 lbs. of food to over 7,000 clients (number of client visits).
- Over 95% of the food distributed is obtained from the Maryland Food Bank, either purchased or through a TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program) grant.
- ALL money donated for the Food Pantry is spent on food. There are no overhead expenses. All those who staff the Food Pantry are also volunteers; many from Faith Community and some from Eastern UMC and Bethesda UMC.
- Currently, the Food Pantry is serving 50-80 clients per week. There are no zip code or income restrictions. Clients can receive food twice a month, but to meet the increased demand, this may change to once a month. Why?
- The government shutdown is causing many Marylanders to experience food insecurity-they cannot afford to by food to feed themselves or their families. One out of every 10 workers in Maryland are employed by the Federal Government. These people are now without an income, with no end in sight.
- SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, aka Food Stamps) is in jeopardy. One out of every 4 households in Baltimore City relies on SNAP to help put food on the table. Without SNAP, they will need more help from local food pantries.
